Pumpkin Decorating

*Note- Jared won a 3rd place ribbon on his storybook character pumpkin at school, and both kids got a "Great Effort Award", a bag of candy, and $5 from the credit union!

Jared and Lauren both decorated a pumpkin for the credit union's contest this year. Jared made a mummy pumpkin, and Lauren painted hers with bats and stars. They turned out pretty cute! I'll let you know if they win any prizes. Everyone gets something for participating!!

Jared also did a pumpkin for the school library's storybook character contest. This year, he chose Chip Block, from the book "Even More Parts: Idioms from Head to Toe". This poor guy takes everything literally...here, he's got a frog in his throat!

Calling the Tooth Fairy...

Jared's loose front tooth was knocked out with a basketball to the mouth today at Will's bday party. He's expecting a visit from the Tooth Fairy tonight- for only the third time in 8 1/2 years! Those things are in there pretty good, and they just don't like to come out!

Dexter, the Neph-dog

My sister, her boyfriend, and their new boxer puppy came for a visit this weekend. The kids loved him, but Bosque wasn't too excited about having little Dexter around. (Dexter made himself at home in Bosque's bed- see pic) He is so cute! Laura bought him a Halloween costume...too funny!

Be All That You Can Be!

We went to a local National Night Out Kick-Off party last night. Lots of local businesses and community services set up booths and give out information and have games and food for the kids, etc.. The cub scouts were asked to help out by handing out stuff at the police department booth, so we made a family evening of it. It was actually pretty fun! We have been before, but the kids were really interested in looking at the army truck, apache helicopter, fire truck, and ambulance this year! Lauren even got to "shoot" the machine gun. I was surprised that she wanted to in the first place, and then that she was actually brave enough to climb up there on top of the truck to do it! The coolest thing was either the kids getting to spray water from the fire truck, or watching the apache helicopter take off! Whoosh!

So, until they are old enough to enlist in the reserves...we are "being all we can be" in soccer and flag football. (How's that for a tie-in?) Jared has only had one game so far, but they did really well and it was so fun to watch! His coach is wonderful and has a great system for teaching them the plays. He is loving it! (#7 orange) Lauren has had about 3 games and is doing great! She scored 5 goals in her first game! (#7 green w/pink shin guards) There have been a few times she has gotten knocked down and has run off the field crying, but we're learning to be tough! Definitely a switch from ballet!
